GLOBAL MOOD

the mood of world news, country by country
THE WORLD RIGHT NOW
loading…

A live mood map of the planet. Every 15 minutes we read the world’s news — from thousands of outlets in 65+ languages — and measure the emotional tone of every story. For each country we look at all the stories worldwide that mention it over the last 24 hours, and colour it by how positive or negative that coverage has been.

A country’s colour shows how the world is talking about it (its own media included) — not a private poll of its people. Colours are relative to the global average (news leans negative everywhere), so red means gloomier than usual, green means brighter than usual. “The world right now” counts how many countries currently sit in each mood. Data: the open GDELT project.
